To build a perfect looking thatched house, normally you just need to follow below steps:

1. Prepare the thatch (selection of materials)
First of all, you must choose the thatch that suits your engineering style. You can choose natural thatch or synthetic resin thatch materials. You can choose the corresponding thatch according to your own situation. Synthetic thatch roofing ist more expensive than natural thatch in short terms. But due to its advantages that will bring to your project, it is an excellent investment, especially if your project is commercial use, such as resort hotel guest room, theme park pavilion, zoo gazebo, waterfront house cottage villa, etc. They will help you create relaxed atmosphere and attract tourists to visit your places.

2. Build the bottom roof structure

Thatched roofs are mainly laid on roof structures such as plywood, metal corrugated roof, or wooden roof trusses. For plywood roof bottom, it is easiest to install the thatched roof. For the metal corrugated roof, you could install steel wire mesh on the bottom at first and then fix the synthetic thatch roof with steel wires to the wire mesh (natural thatch products are different). The traditional wooden roof trusses in China are mainly herringbone roof trusses, but in Africa and other places, the special-shaped herringbone roof trusses are more common. This type of roof truss installation is different from the installation form of China's roof truss. The construction steps are as follows:

1). Fix 2 temporary uprights in the middle of the room to the position where the roof elevation is required. According to the different indoor area, 3 or more columns can be fixed symmetrically.

2). On 2 or more uprights, fix a cross wood as a spine purlin.

3). Install the rafters symmetrically, one end is fixed on the cross wood, and the other end is fixed on the wall or beam. If it is fixed on the beam, reserve the corresponding iron wire or steel bars with a diameter of 8-12mm when pouring the beam, and the spacing is about 1~1.5m.

4). According to construction requirements, install inclined columns and purlins to reinforce the roof truss. The distance between the purlins is about 0.5-0.7m, and is proportional to the length of the thatch unit.

5). For the wooden roof trusses, normally use synthetic palmex palm thatch roof, as this is waterproof and easier for this roof structure than other synthetic thatch roof covering tiles.
